Issue 1, Dec 2008

The Sunday School classes are working very hard each week to learn and spread the word of God.  This is the first of our new quarterly newsletter to share their progress and let you know what’s going on around you in our church.

Nursery (ages 0-3)
Our nursery class is learning how to give thanks and they are making turkeys for the Thanksgiving celebration.  Meanwhile they are having fun sharing all the toys with each other.

5th and 6th Grade
This has been a busy Fall for our 5th graders.  They attended special First Holy Communion classes and received their first communion on Nov. 2nd.  In class they just finished their discussion on Moses and Joshua and the city of Jericho.  In addition the 5th & 6th Graders are also learning the songs for the Christmas program.
*A special thank you to Josh & Austin for helping take pictures for this newsletter.

K4, K5, 1st and 2nd Grade
When we visited our K4-2nd Graders they were busy coloring turkeys, too!  Besides talking about Thanksgiving they’re busy working with Mrs. Heckman learning the songs for our Christmas program on Dec. 21st.   Mrs. Halpin tells us next week they’re going to start their Advent session and make an Advent wreath.  Sounds like fun!

Confirmation Class
Upon entering the room with Pastor Betty and our confirmation class we almost got bombarded with boxes.  Yes, they were busy helping Mrs. Davis fold boxes for the pie sale this week.  I think Mrs. Davis is glad we had such great attendance today.  She had lots of boxes to be folded!  When they’re not folding boxes or wrapping gifts (for Rudolph’s Shop on Dec. 7th) they are studying the four gospels of the Bible with Pastor Betty as they continue on their important journey of becoming an adult member of St. Peter’s.
*Reminder - - Dec. 13th is the next confirmation session with Pastors Betty and Gary.

3rd and 4th Grade
After practicing our Christmas hymns with Mrs. Heckman, our 3rd and 4th Graders were talking about the kings of Israel and how they ruled.  We learned that they were not such good rulers.  They were too greedy.

Senior High Class
The Senior High Class is open to any youth after they’re confirmed through college age.  They have many creative discussions from the workbook titled “Talksheets”.  Four of our youth in this class are currently preparing to attend the ELCA Youth Gathering in July, 2009.  Let’s all keep them in our thoughts and prayers as they participate in the experience of a life time with over 30,000 youth from all over the world.

Adult Class
Our adult class was having a very interesting discussion on the book, “What Do You Want For Christmas”.  In addition they’re busy planning the cheer bags and caroling to St. Peter’s shut-ins.

Coming Soon!
Mrs. Heckman and our Christian Education Committee are planning to start a Children’s Time & Song once a month at the 10:45 service.  Watch for more information in January!
